Recorded
in the summer of 2001, Keith's CD, Life by the Scenic Route, comprises a bunch of songs he
had written over the last 25 years plus a couple of covers. Musically, Keith has been
inspired by the likes of Michael Chapman, John Martyn, J J Cale, Sonny Boy Williamson and
Rodney Crowell. Like most of us, Keith has encountered difficult times in his life, which have formed the basis of many of his songs. His lyrics appeal to all ages as they express the emotions felt by anyone who has been through similar periods of their lives. "The songs pretty much speak for themselves. Some are autobiographical, some imagined, and some came true anyway, but I'm not going to tell you which is which!"A lot of people say I write misery but there's nothing wrong with a good miserable song!" "The two non-original songs are there because I love to sing them and they fit the spirit of this album. I've been doing the train blues thing on the harp for a mighty long time, but audiences love it and are always asking for a recording. So here it is. We had a lot of fun making this record, I hope you enjoy it." "His (Keith's) well known 'Train Blues' is a fine piece of harmonica playing and is a musical account of the undulating countryside on the journey between Penzance and Camborne", Di Franklin, Royal West of England Academy. Guest musicians on the album were
one of Britain's foremost tenor and soprano saxophonists, Andy Sheppard, the violinist,
Stuart Gordon, Kit Morgan on electric and Spanish guitars, Rick Payne on slide guitar, and
Andy Hay on mandocello. Backing vocals were provided by Keith's sister Tricia and her
husband Steve, Stuart Gordon and Andy Hay. MP3 Samples from 'Life by the Scenic Route': 1:
